Why I Am Choosing to Run for City Council
As a lifelong Bastropian of 50 years and counting, I love this city and have always been concerned about the health and wellbeing of Bastrop’s future. This city has given me so much—whether it’s the people I’ve met, the opportunities I’ve been given, or the many memories I’ve made growing up here. As someone who’s built a life here, I know what’s at stake.
Over time I have had multiple opportunities to make a home in other places that would have been more lucrative for me and my family, but my heart always chose this community. So why do this now?
This is not a snap decision made over the last few months. This is a culmination of over 6 years weighing this decision. Now the kids are growing older, and the nest is getting empty. Faced with this reality, there will be more time and energy to commit to what it takes for this role and now is the time.
- I chose to run because I believe our city has incredible potential but realizing that potential requires action. I want to tackle the challenges that affect us all: growth, infrastructure, economic opportunity and quality of life. These issues impact not just individuals, but families, neighborhoods, and the character of our entire community.
- Through my experiences over the last 30 years of being a recording artist, working for CBS Radio as an Assistant Program Director for Talk Radio 1370AM, Infinity Broadcasting and Entercom Austin in production, working for the City of Austin at Austin 311, which included a role at the City Manager’s office, and currently at SAS Business Solutions, I’ve learned the importance of listening, learning, collaborating, hard work and staying true to your principles.
